A Henderson County, TX Home Remodeling Contractor Improves Accessibility

When a family member becomes disabled, a home remodeling contractor in Henderson County TX can help make the home more accessible for this individual. Bathrooms can be particularly problematic for men and women who have significant weakness, difficulty using their hands, or need accessibility equipment for mobility. Sometimes a complete overhaul of the master bathroom is the best option.

Open Floor Plan

A disabled person benefits from an open floor plan. Professional home remodeling contractor in Henderson County TX can remove floor cabinetry to create extra space for a walker or wheelchair. A pedestal sink or wall-mounted sink can replace a long vanity.

Accessible Shower

The clients may want the bathtub removed if the disabled resident has trouble stepping over the side. A more spacious shower area could be built there to include a permanent bench. Now, someone who might experience weakness or balance problems can sit as needed.

The shower taps must be easily accessible when seated. A handheld spray apparatus should be installed so the person can use it while sitting.

Toilet Replacement

Although devices are available to change the height of a toilet seat, replacing the fixture with a different model could be preferable. Someone in a wheelchair needs the toilet seat top to be 17 to 19 inches from the floor. In contrast, a person dealing with weakness or significant leg pain benefits from a taller version making it easier to sit and stand back up.

Grab Bars

The contractor can add grab bars that are essential for the person’s safety. The devices should be placed by the toilet as well as inside and just outside of the shower area.
